Le Département DCFE regroupe en son sein 4 équipes dont les compétences permettent de structurer des recherches à partir d’échanges conceptuels et méthodologiques sur la thématique des interrelations biodiversité – structure – fonctionnement des écosystèmes et de leur dynamiques.
Ces échanges sont issus d’une réflexion commune s’appuyant sur une animation scientifique ainsi qu’une mutualisation des équipements et plateaux techniques, toutes deux voulues comme transversales entre les équipes du Département.
Les recherches au sein du Département sont menées à de multiples niveaux d’intégration : des cellules aux écosystèmes, des contraintes environnementales aux dynamiques écologiques et évolutives. Un effort particulier se concentre sur les plateformes de modélisation et simulation, d’analyse physicochimique des stocks et flux de nutriments (carbone, azote, phosphore …) et de microbiologie.
Le Département DCFE se propose de faire émerger plusieurs axes de recherche agrégeant les compétences propres aux équipes :
- Lier fonctionnement des réseaux d’interaction, boucle microbienne et fonctions écologiques en découlant (eg. Production primaire, minéralisation, nitrification) ;
- Comparer des écosystèmes très différents (écosystèmes aquatiques vs. terrestres, écosystèmes naturels vs. anthropisés (eg. urbains, agrosystèmes)) ;
- Analyser l’impact des perturbations naturelles et anthropiques sur les réseaux d’interactions écologiques et en extraire des indicateurs de stabilité (résistance, résilience) ;
- Comprendre le rôle des organismes ingénieurs dans ces interactions en s’appuyant sur l’implication forte de différents membres des équipes dans l’association GAIÉ (Groupe d’application de l’ingénierie des écosystèmes) ;
- Comprendre le rôle de l’organisation spatiale des populations dans le fonctionnement des réseaux et des écosystèmes aux échelles fines (populations microbiennes), intermédiaires (parcelles, lacs, mésocosmes) et larges (paysage, bassins versants) ;
- Croiser demandes sociales et fonctionnement des écosystèmes en traduisant ces concepts en termes de services écosystémiques ;
- Analyser les interactions entre biodiversité, dynamique des communautés, fonctionnement des écosystèmes et services écosystémiques.
