Équipe Forçages et Flux dans la Zone Critique "F2ZC" - iEES Paris

Les compétences réunies dans cette équipe concernent l´analyse de la variabilité spatiale et temporelle, ainsi que les propriétés physiques des sols tropicaux, par des approches de la science du sol, de la géophysique et de télédétection :

  • l´évaluation sur des observatoires à long terme des impacts des usages du sol, notamment agricoles, sur la biodiversité végétale et de la faune du sol ;
  • le suivi des événements climatiques sur le terrain ;
  • la modélisation des flux d´eau et particulaires hydriques et éoliens, donc l´érosion sous diverses formes ainsi que l´étude de la rhizosphère.

 

La recherche est conduite dans des paysages soumis à des changements d’usages des terres particulièrement intenses, avec deux objectifs majeurs :

  • d´une part, la caractérisation des processus biophysiques de structuration du sol, c’est-à-dire la caractérisation des mécanismes physiques et biologiques d’agrégation et de désagrégation du sol, dont dépendent de nombreuses propriétés du sol (stockage et transfert d´eau et de solutés, notamment) ; il s’agit de comprendre les variations spatiale et temporelle de ces processus au sein des paysages soumis à des changements d’usages.
  • d´autre part, l´évaluation des effets des changements de processus biophysiques sur la fourniture par le sol de services écosystémiques : production primaire et services de régulation du climat par la séquestration du carbone, régulation des crues et de l´érosion sous ses différentes formes ; il s’agit d’évaluer les répercussions aux niveaux de la parcelle, du bassin versant, ou du terroir, de changements de nature ou d´intensité de processus biophysiques locaux.

Ce projet se décline en trois axes complémentaires :

Le premier axe analyse les dynamiques de paysage et du sol résultant des changements d’usages.

Il s’appuie sur des observatoires à long terme, tels que les bassins versants du dispositif MSEC (MultiScale Environmental

 

Changes) pour :

  • Identifier les déterminants des changements d´usages ;
  • Evaluer les effets des pratiques agricoles sur :
  • La diversité de la couverture végétale, sa fragmentation ;
  • La biodiversité végétale et de la faune du sol ;
  • Les états de surface du sol, dans les différents éléments de la mosaïque végétale, qui influent sur la partition des eaux des pluies entre infiltration et ruissellement.

Le deuxième axe est central dans le projet, car il vise à comprendre les liens entre les changements d´usages des terres et leurs impacts sur le fonctionnement du sol. Par des expérimentations au champ, et en laboratoire, il s´agit d´analyser l´influence des facteurs biotiques et abiotiques et de leurs interactions sur les propriétés hydro-structurales du sol, en mettant à profit les outils de la plate-forme Alysés à Bondy, notamment le rétractomètre, les dispositifs de mesures géophysiques et isotopiques.

Le troisième axe évalue les impacts des changements d´usages sur les flux ; autrement dit, il cherche à intégrer les processus biophysiques locaux dans le fonctionnement de systèmes sol-plante, sol-atmosphère et bassin versants. Il s´intéresse particulièrement au fonctionnement hydrique du sol et à la productivité de cultures arborées, en relation avec le développement des systèmes racinaires, en s´appuyant sur les outils géophysiques.
L´étude de la croissance des racines fines en profondeur est poursuivie en raison de leur contribution à l´alimentation en eau des plantes.
On cherche également à modéliser les flux hydriques et les émissions de particules vers l´atmosphère et les réseaux hydrographiques en fonction de l´évolution des propriétés hydro-structurales des sols.
Enfin, on évalue les risques sanitaires consécutifs aux changements d´usages en Asie, par le suivi de la qualité bactérienne des sols et des eaux.

L´équipe Forçages et flux dans la Zone critique (F2ZC) est composée de 10 chercheurs, dont 2 d’entre eux affectés en Afrique, et de 6 ingénieurs et techniciens de l’IRD, rattachés au Centre IRD délégation Fle-de- France à Bondy (93) dont 3 affectés en Afrique ou en Asie.
