Équipe Biogéographie et Diversité des Interactions du Sol "BioDIS" - iEES Paris

L’objectif de l’équipe BioDIS est de proposer une analyse des interactions des sols dans leur contexte environnemental, dans le but de prédire le fonctionnement biologique et l’évolution des sols.

Notre stratégie de recherche propose d’étudier les interactions biologiques en prenant en compte les contraintes abiotiques (qui ne sont pas liées à l’activité d’êtres vivants) qui régulent ou modulent ces interactions, selon trois axes de recherche :

  • une analyse fonctionnelle des interactions, selon qu’elles soient de nature physique, chimique et/ou biochimique et les répercussions sur les fonctions émergentes du sol ;

  • une analyse spatiale, nommée biogéographie des interactions, dans laquelle nous tenterons de mettre en évidence l’impact de la structuration spatiale sur l’organisation des interactions à différentes échelles (du paysage à l’habitat microbien) ;

  • une analyse temporelle, nommée évolution des interactions, dans laquelle nous analyserons l’impact de la sélection naturelle, des flux de gènes et de la dérive génétique sur les interactions.

Légende : L’objet d’étude de l’équipe BioDIS concerne les interactions intra et inter groupes fonctionnels du sol (plante, vers de terre, microorganismes). Ces interactions peuvent être de différentes natures (axe « analyse fonctionnelle »), et sont déterminées par la position des organismes et la structuration du sol (axe « analyse spatiale ») ainsi que par les contraintes évolutives à l’origine de leur dynamique (axe « analyse temporelle »).
Seule une intégration de ces différents aspects permet la compréhension et la prédiction du fonctionnement des sols.

Le sol est un système complexe et constitue un élément fondamental des écosystèmes terrestres. Il participe à la réalisation d’un grand nombre de services écosystémiques, tels que la production de nourriture, l’épuration des eaux, le recyclage des déchets organiques ou le stockage de carbone.

Une particularité du sol est sa très forte structuration spatiale conduisant à la coexistence d’une multitude d’habitats aux propriétés variées. L’organisation spatiale des pores et des éléments solides du sol conduit à une distribution de l’oxygène, des solutés ou de l’eau extrêmement complexe et dont les gradients peuvent être très forts sur une distance d’à peine quelques micromètres.
Ces environnements sont également très dynamiques puisque leurs propriétés physico-chimiques peuvent changer rapidement, sous l’effet de l’activité microbienne, des racines des plantes et des vers de terre. Ceci a pour conséquence une modification rapide des contraintes sélectives auxquelles sont soumis les organismes du sol, en particulier due à la capacité de nombre d’entre eux à créer leur propre niche écologique.

La notion d’habitat en interaction avec l’activité biologique apparaît donc centrale pour mieux comprendre le fonctionnement biologique du sol. Plus que tout autre domaine de l’écologie, l’écologie des sols doit intégrer les interactions biotiques-abiotiques et les interactions entre micro- et macroorganismes.
